Originally, the Austrian band Shadows’ Grey has been started under the name of Scargod. They broke in 2009 and started a new band with what was left of them. As a full length release was never made under their previous name, “Bonjour Tristesse” is their debut.
With female metal voices, you have a certain cliché stuck on you and although Shadows’ Grey seem to start of quite ok, in the end they did not manage to leave a strong impression. Vocalists Martina and Albert make a good match vocally, but after a while it starts getting boring. The instrumentals do not catch that up with some impressive parts, which is kind of disappointing. The stronger part of their album is definitely the first part, after seven/eight it seems like the band is repeating their selves. The band should throw in some more creativity and perhaps focus less on what other bands have been done, to create a more unique sound. The band leaves a little remark to their past with the final song called “Scargod”, but somehow it is clear that Shadows’ Grey is a band in its teenage years, ready to grow up but have not found their own identity yet.
