The powermetal band that was founded by Gus G back in 1998 in Thessaloniki. Gus G. had studied at Berklee College of music in the USA, and when some friends helped him to put together a demo it all started for Firewind. The band had released their debut album “Between Heaven and Hell” back in 2002. Since then the band has released 5 albums and now present their “Days Of Defiance” album. Gus G. was asked by non less then Ozzy Osborne to join his band in 2009, but mister G is still committed to Firewind and now presents a new album. With this album the band presents their new drummer Michael Ehré (Metalium).
The band plays a mix Melodic Power Metal and Rock´n´Roll. It has been said that their precious album was a bit more poppy oriented on this album they took things in a different angle. More dark, heavier and angrier. Gus G. also improved his guitar skills while playing for Ozzy which you can really hear on the album in his more right soloing for example on the opening track “The Ark of Lies”. The lyrics are about the Greek situation with its corruption, and you can hear a little anger in the fast double bass. A track that is more mainstream is “Embrace The Sun”, it has that catchy pop feeling due to the synthesisers with the sound of a hard rock track, easy but with some nice guitar moments. Besides the ballad “Broken” there is also a instrumental number on this release named “SKG”. Firewind delivered a nice and diverse power metal album.
