Triptykon – Shatter

Releasedate: 25-10-2010; Label: Century Media
By: Elvira Visser

Thomas Gabriel Fisher (a.k.a. Tom Gabriel Warrior) formally known from Hellhammer and Celtric Frost has been busy with a side project for some years. Triptykon is releasing a follow up on their acclaimed debut album “Eparistera Daimones” with the release of “Shatter”. This five track Ep contains three preciously unreleased songs the band already recorded during their “Esparistera Daimones” album sessions. The track Crucifixus appears in a newly mixed and mastered version. The last two tracks are two Celtic Frost tracks, live recorded at their performance at the Roadburn Festival in Tilburg, the Netherlands on April 16th in 2010. As an addition “Dethroned Emperor” features guest lead vocals by Nocturno Culto of Darkthrone, who was at the festival to perform with Sarke.

However Triptykon shows there is more of their creative force to come, the waiting is for another full length. “Shatter” is however, very nice for the fans, especially with those two live recordings. Triptykon proves again on “Shatter” that the band is capable of creating a very dark and dull atmosphere. This darkness is created by crushing hammerblow drumming, great guitar parts and that combined with the whispers and deep groaning and moaning from Thomas Fisher. The dark bass line is very present on this EP.

A complete European tour is in the works for early 2011.
