Inheritor is a Colombian metal band. They have formed in 2008 their debut full length “From Dust ‘n Passion” came out in 2010.
The band makes Melodic Death Metal and has a female vocalist. This given makes an interesting match, their music tends to have elements of the symphonic metal too. These female vocals seemed to be quite controlled, compared to the majority of female metal voices that have come with an album recently. Vicky Mejia knows her borders and stays on the safe side of them. This makes that there probably could have been more excitement in it, but for a very first release it works out quite well. Male vocals, by Alejandro Cardenas, could perhaps go a bit deeper than where they are now. Instrumentally, you might be surprised with a little different view on this music than the European cliché. Pretty refreshing, often starting with some calm guitars, striking up in vehemence during the song, but maybe not as Death as they say it is. It seems that the band have taken some Prog influences in their instrumentals rather. Often in the background are the drums. Only occasionally they come forward and maybe then try to be a bit more dominant while the listener just got used to the strings taking the lead over the vocals.
A refreshing release, the band have gave themselves an own face, straight from the first release. Sets expectations for all that comes up next.
