The Meads of Asphodel is a UK based band that formed in 1998. The band makes experimental Black Metal. “The Murder Of Jesus The Jew” is the band’s fourth full length release.
What is interesting that this album seem to be made a sort of Black Metal musical. The music is very depending on the story, which with only little imagination you could see it happen as a show. The band puts their influences out of different genres. Therefore you find many passages that would not immediately feel close to Black Metal, but don’t let that put your attention away from the overall sound. Atmospheric parts bring a more fairytale image over it, but then you get interrupted by brutality in the vocals and lyrics. Fairytale from hell. In tempo the instruments seemed quite variable as well. From slower to fast, all is in and it is not easy tell where the stress is on, but the guys have made it work for the story, rather than taken a wish to be a typical fast band. When some prog, jazzy influences come in they often create a moment of rest in the story, welcome as it is. The music is not demanding you to quickly gather it, but it is that there is much to hear that keeps brain working on processing it.
Various album, many hours of listening pleasure, Typically one to recommend anyone that is into Folk and Black Metal.
