A band that is two decades old… Stoner Kings from Finland is a stoner rock band as their name suggests 🙂 Fronted by the pro-wrestler Michael “Starbuck” Majalahti, the band released their 3rd-ever album “Alpha Male” after a 13-year break. Their last album titled “Fuck The World” was out in 2006. And their debut long-play was “Brimstone Blues” way back in 2002. So kudos to the veterans who have kept their hearts alive with the fire of rock’n roll for all those years.
You cannot almost tell that this is a band from Finland by just looking at their sound and style; if I had not known that fact, I would have definitely thought this was an American stoner band. So, I guess that’s a good sign because the genre itself originated from the U.S. in the first place, Stoner Kings are kind of unique in their own way in that sense.
This band is all about catchy riffs and somehow minimal belting out vocals. It does not certainly mean that Mr. Starbuck is not good at what he is doing, but just the opposite. With his vocals, their sound is all about that dirty bump’n grind. Off “Alpha Male” my favorites were, the absolute banger Fucked A.D. and irresistible Green Machine cover of Kyuss’ ’92 stoner gem “Blues For the Red Sun”.
If you like Stoner/Hard rock as a genre, and you still don’t know what Stoner Kings sound like, make sure to check these geezers out!
