RUADH is an atmospheric black metal solo-project from Scotland. Formed by Tom Perrett, the inspirations for Ruadh have been drawn from the vast well of history, culture and mythology. The brand new album The Rock of the Clyde is out this month and explores the history and mythology of the people of Scotland.
With The Rock of the Clyde, we are taken to the Iron Ages in Scotland. You will feel the beautiful Scottish landscapes and the magic of the nature in an instant. Surely, the central themes and the lyrics are not extraordinary but each song took me to different places and I could feel that Mr. Perrett gave his heart and soul to this album. I always appreciate passion and dedication, especially in this genre, and so we have a solid release which you will enjoy if you like your black metal atmospheric. In particular, some names might come to mind if you are familiar with this genre but don’t let this affect you. Ruadh definitely has its own essence and the album its own spirit.
In general, the album carries a certain melancholy and darkness even though each song will evoke different emotions. The balance of the harsh (black metal) vs. ‘softer’ (atmospheric) songs is well-made and also forms the essence of this project. This contrast is depicted perfectly in the last two pieces of the album Only Distant Echoes Reign, two parts forming one song. Another big highlight is the diversity the album brings with the combo of male & female vocals.
The Rock of the Clyde is definitely recommended to the lovers of this genre as well as to the ones wanting to discover and feel nature through the music. Kudos to the band for delivering such beautiful melodies!
