Noctum is a Swedish Traditional Doom Metal band. The released “The Séance” as an LP right now.
Inspired by the 70’s this band got a good base to lie on. Their info sheet tells more about the music from their region being inspired by this, but when keeping the focus on what they have done their selves you see a better image of the band. What brings enlightment is that the band makes their own material rather than taking the best from the past with some copy paste mentality. Yet, they managed to make memorable riffs work in a song with good vocals, maybe one to get used to, at first you might wonder whether the vocals are stable enough to make it throughout the record but soon enough you find out they are. The band plays with the tempo, bringing moments of peace in the sound and speeding it up a little here and there. Also remarkable in here are the drums that fill it up completely. Somehow they make bigger part of the music as you might realize at first.
Overall this release is impressive. Maybe it is only a sad thing to say this LP released limited to 500 pieces. There are truly some great songs on here and it sets the perspective this band can grow a lot. In that case you all want to collect all material of them so better get your hands on it now.
