Butzemann is a German band founded by two brothers two years ago. All inspiration for the songs on this album were coming from fairy tales. Twelve songs about Grimm’s tales and other tales you were told as a kid is what you find on their album “Merechyn”.
You have a narrator on this album that tells a bit out of each tale. You can hear the cracking noise of an open fire in the background. The music itself is dark Gothic Rock with an evil sound. Somehow the music reminds a bit of Rammstein but it also has quite some medieval influence. Some songs are more electric and others remind more of Falco. As different as all tales that Butzemann used for this album are, just as different yet close is the sound of each song on this album. An interesting piece of art. Yet not too convincing. It doesn’t suck you into a fairy world with evil witches living in the dark forest and a hero saving the stories main character. But maybe Butzemann will create just that image for the next album. Until the next “once upon a time” is said by Butzemann we will live happily ever after.
