Jim Lindberg – the head of The Black Pacific – left Pennywise due to creative differences and the fact that he didn’t want to tour as much as his band mates aspired to. In June 2010 Lindberg unveiled his new band The Black Pacific.
The group are signed to SideOneDummy Records and have debuted two tracks, “The System” and “When It’s Over”. The Black Pacific features Alan Vega (from Good Guys in Black) on drums and Davey Latter (from Everest) on bass, with Jim writing all of the songs, playing guitar, and singing. Produced by Far guitarist Shaun Lopez, Black Pacific’s debut album will feature a variety of musical styles. Black Pacific will play their debut show at Epicenter 2010 in Fontana, California. Their self titled debut album is out now.
For all Pennywise fans and punk fans in general this album will be pure pleasure. Great and catchy tunes get you going. The big sound of each song tells you that the guys definitely know what they are doing and that they have been in the business for more than just a while already. Some songs remind slightly of bands such as Bad Religion. The guitar playing is somewhat outstanding on The Black Pacific. Ten new songs for the masses that will be liked by more than just punk fans or Pennywise, Everest or Good Guys in Black fans. This is another album that will stay in your CD player for quite a while. Enjoy!
