This Drowning Man is a five piece band from Hamburg, Germany founded in 2005. They now released their new album “Big Faint Lane”.
The album artwork is held very dark and dreamy, floating through your mind when looking at it, and so is the music. Not in a gothic and gloomy way, more in a way of The Cure and Joy Division. That is also the major influences you can hear in the music of This Drowning Man. The ten tracks go back and forth between desperation, hope and slightly angry. “Big Faint Lane” somehow sounds like music from the 80s. Melodic songs go into dreamy towards spacey sounding tracks. “Big Faint Lane” is definitely and interesting album to listen to because even though the music seems complex it somehow still floats together to one big sound. Really amazing. The lyrics get your thoughts wandering through the world beyond. The album is rather slow, there is hardly any faster songs on it. But you don’t always need action, sometimes you need a quiet and peaceful album as well. And here you have it. “Big Faint Lane” by This Drowning Man should be in your CD collection if you love Joy Division and The Cure, and honestly, who doesn’t?
