Thornium is a Black Metal band coming from Norway. They formed in 1993 and anno 2010 their third full length album called: “Fides Luciferius” saw light.
Black Metal usually comes as raw and filthy as possible, but with this album, things seem to be a little different. A quite clean production comes to your plate with this disc and maybe that is not exactly what you expected to hear from a band that started long time ago, but it has some charm. Vocals come in quite dominant and clear, while remaining a little filth as well. On the music itself there is a lack of originality, It has been done before, several times already and it is not something that falls under the category ‘more of good is good’. A little too simple perhaps. Melodic guitars could have come with more creativity. It is not music that is terrible to listen to, but Black Metal fans know their way too better stuff! Having this in your collection will bring you some hours of listening, but “Fides Luciferius” is not the album that makes me remember the band long time. Seems like a missed opportunity for the guys. Considering the fact that between the first two album there was a gap of 14 years, and between the second and third only one, it might have been that the band had either lost their creativity or filled this album with the leftover from the previous one. Too bad.
