Danzig – Deth Red Saboath

Releasedate: 22-06-2010; Label: Vertigo
By: Nina Mende

Danzig is an American heavy metal band, formed in 1987 in Lodi, New Jersey. The band serves as a musical outlet for the singer/songwriter Glenn Danzig. Danzig can be seen as the third stage in Glenn Danzig’s musical career, preceded by the horror punk bands The Misfits and Samhain. They primarily play in a heavy metal style that is largely influenced by the early sound of Black Sabbath. They have just released their ninth studio album.

It’s been six years since the last Danzig album, and now, here it is. After being in production for almost two years “Deth Red Saboath” is finally released. The music on the album sounds diabolic as usual. Somehow it feels amazing to finally hold a new Danzig album in hands again, and so does it also feel when listening to it. The sound is awesome. The music is somehow on the edge to metal. There is a lot of double kick used in the drums. Somehow listening to all eleven new Danzig songs gives you a strange feeling on the one hand, on the other it feels very familiar though. Creepy yet sheltered. Maybe I just feel that way because I am an old school Misfits fan and Danzig as well as everything else that “belongs” to Misfits has always been a part of my life, but either way. The emotions and atmosphere captured on this album is simply amazing, something only Danzig knows how to do, at least in the way he does. “On a Wicked Night” is the album’s first single. A music video has been filmed for the song “Night Star Hel”. Lets hope the follow up won’t be taking that long.
