A Forest of Stars – Opportunistic Thieves of Spring

Releasedate: 01-06-2010; Label: Transcendental Creations
By: Sabine van Gameren

Black Metal formation A Forest of Stars released their new album. “Oppertunistic Thieves of Spring” is their second full length release.

In their previous album there were more doom influences but now the band goes into the psychedelic side. They focus on intense long songs, trying to make long pieces of forth growing music climbing up hills up till climaxes. The effects used in the music might give it an even more spooky atmosphere but the band brings the initial music to the background with it. The riffing and also the drums have been pushed away in the background. Keys come more forward next to the vocals screeching darkness. The violin, brings a good add to the music when it’s adjusted. It brings rest and gives you the time to catch up to bring two pieces together. Some fast, aggressive parts and more calm parts get a bridge between them created by these strings. Compared to their previous work, the band brought a different concept, it works out better and the band gets even more of an own face. When you get further into the music after listening it several times you start discovering more beauty in it than you would have thought at first. It is to question if the band can bring this atmosphere to a live situation as well, but considering this record there is only the conclusion that it impressed much more than the band’s debut.
