The French Black Metal band Hell Militia is formed in 2001. “Last Station On The Road To Death” is their second release.
First thing to notice when listening to Hell Militia is the vocals. Like it or hate it, but they sound a bit like someone is holding vocalist Meyhnach his throat. It’s lacking power, doesn’t go deep enough and kind of spoils the atmosphere that the instrumentals try to set. On the instrumental side there is kind of a lack in originality. It feels like you have heard this before. Time after time after time. No riffs that stand out, a bit op copy paste from here and there. What also did not match with expectations was the production of it all. It appears to be a weak album, where so much strength could have come from them. After listening to this album I surely feel dead so at least the band succeeded in picking a suitable name for it, whether they should take it as a compliment or not.
Sad to say that this album seems to be one that you don’t have to hear, something went terribly wrong and never got right again. Let’s hope that if the band comes with a next album, they manage to bring their ideas more to life in their music.
