Perpetuum is a metal band from Chile. After the band released some demo’s it is now time for their debut full length album “Gradual Decay of Consience”.
The band has been around since 2003 and now they decided to go international with the release of their debut. They have a Death Metal as a base, bringing slight influences of other aggressive metal genres to their sound. In most songs the mix is a bit of a battle between vocal and instruments, who is the most dominating of them? But when the vocals shut up for some seconds you hear good riffs, not the most innovating, but nevertheless not that bad to listen too. Within their instrumentals Perpetuum succeeds in bringing tension and tempo changes. The drums on their own ego moment in for example “Scourging The Foe”. Vocal wise it does not always seem to match. On some moments there could have been more passion, but there are also parts that it would have been more likely for vocalist Alejandro Ruiz to let the instrumentals do its job.
The album is ok for their debut, listens pleasantly and seemed to be filled with causes that might interest a wide audience. For their next release there hopefully is a better balance between vocals and instrumentals, but for now the band is on a good path.
