Chain Wallet – No Ritual

Label: Jansen Records
Releasedate: 15-02-2019

The Norwegian band Chain Wallet makes Pop music with a bit dark edge. Maybe a bit like Editors feel but a more mellow approach to it. The band just released their album “No Ritual” recently.

The music of this group is quite synth driven but has the vocals also as a key element. They are not there just to catch you, it is a key element in the experience of Chain Wallet. As an album to listen to you may find it quite mellow, but the music already in the first track gives you the idea that in any live situation they suck you in, which is why Editors came up as a reference. The fourth track on this release “Closer” is one that makes the most impression at the first listen. It has something catchy but also a certain feel of melancholy. With some female voices in the song there is a contrast that we did not hear before. A nice add but at the peaks a bit up to the taste of the listener, narrowing it down.

After that they go on with a bit more energetic song called “What Everybody Else Could Find” it lifts up the spirits of the release. The rest of the release is all quite in line. It feels a bit like the guys could have brought a bit more diversity into their tracks, but overall it a feelgood release. Easy to listen to and dreamy enough to have you enjoy it at several occassions. It is not the typical chartmaterial, but rather an album that finds its way to the underground by various live shows.
