Piledriver – Rockwall

[schema type=”review” name=”Piledriver – Rockwall” author=”Sabine van Gameren” pubdate=”2018-12-10″ ]

Previously a Status Quo cover band, anno 2018 a band that makes their own material. Did they break away far enough from that with “Rockwall”?

A quick scan learns that old tricks don’t die, a cover is found on this release. But, twelve other tracks that Piledriver composed themselves. Having Stefan Kaufmann (Accept, U.D.O) on board surely speaks to some as well. It helps the band get international allure with their songs and the album is full of catchy rock n roll tunes.

Not too much wrong with these, other than maybe be a bit too straightforward. Waiting for that moment the band surprises, you may not feel too happy at the end of the album, not having found it. But it did take you on a trip through time where you’ll find music you can enjoy at a rockbar any time. Titletrack “Rockwall” for example. Simple lyrics, not too wild. Nodding along with a beer on your hand talking to friends.

A bit more exciting it gets with a song like “Draw The Line” which has more body.

Altogether the album brings the impression that Piledriver is a band that impresses live with their enthusiasm but lacks a bit of strength to have this come across also on record. Nevertheless “Rockwall” is an album that listens easily and will not bore you, but it is not yearlist material.
