[schema type=”review” name=”!Distain – Farewell To The Past” description=”Label: Echozone” author=”Sabine van Gameren” pubdate=”2018-11-02″ ]!Distain is a German electro pop formation that has been started in 1992. More than 25 years on the counter they have quite some experience. However, whether their next release is going to be what you have known from them before is questionable as they called it: “Farewell To The Past”.
The band lost a member, so now the duo Alexander and Manfred are left to form the sound. At first it does not seem to be so radically different from what the guys have made before but some subtle differences are to be found. Some more melodic elements, it seems, to be forming more depth. The refinement is going further than before.
Others seem more dark, the electro more upfront. But above all the tracks are catchy. You will feel the sound quite fast and those lyrics are easy to sing along to. What seems to be a bit more experimental are the pieces that are purely instrumental. Sometimes too long, others too shallow. Not always a win, the refinement we found earlier could have gone into these also, but it isn’t.
Overall the album is quite fine. Many years of experience are there and so you can expect an album that has some quality. Do you join the experiment, a new way they are flirting with? Find it out with this release as it has all elements of a bridge towards something radically different.
