Superfjord is a Finnish prog-psych band, formed in 2004. They define their music as ‘cosmic jammed-out psych rock’. The new record “All Will Be Golden” is their sophomore one after having signed to Svart Records. As a sucker for the psych-rock myself, I wouldn’t have missed the opportunity to dig deep into this… let’s find out if this album is golden.
“All Will Be Golden” is full of psychedelia inspired by the 70s… but not only that. The album offers so many passages, colors and emotions that will take you on a nice good trip and make you chill. As with the mix of these genres, a certain progressive atmosphere is also there, paying tributes to names like Pink Floyd and The Who. On top of all that bundle of emotions, the twists in the record will get you even more hooked; the jazz elements in songs “Master Architect” and “Rainha de Floresta” or the spiritual and even shamanic vibes in “Parvati Valley” add another level to the record and make it even more colorful.
Technically, one can maybe say that the band focuses more on the instrumental aspects rather than the lyrics as the singing may come off as repetitive. However, I think the band might also want the listener to focus on the ambiance and the instruments such as the key solos or the jazz elements. Depending on what you like more in your music, this album might be a great psychedelic trip or just an ordinary ride. One thing is for certain though; Superfjord’s music is creative, dynamic and inspired by many aspects… and this is definitely very well-reflected in “All Will Be Golden”.
“All Will Be Golden” might one of the most colorful albums I have listened to in a while. The music may sound complicated and give off that feeling that it’s all over-the-place but be patient and take your time. You will surely find beauties with each listen. One of my highlights of 2018 for sure!
