The Cruel Intentions – No sign of relief

Scandinavian quartet (actually, three quarters are Swedes, the rest is Norwegian) “The Cruel Intentions” released the debut album “No sign of relief” this September. Newbie as a band (formed in 2015), veteran on the rock stage as a person (Lizzy DeVine, current vocals, is also ex-singer of “Vains of Jenna”). “The cruel intentions” has known with several singles on the digital area and catchy live performances on stage.

“No sign of relief” includes 11 tracks that take a half of hour. All the traditions of punk, sleazy and glam rock appear in every song, so I hesitate to mention the key tracks. The style of the band would compared with Swedish sleaze bands “Chrashdiet” and “Hardcore Superstars” on their first records or mastodons of glam rock “Motley Crue”. If not being so stereotyped, then “The cruel intentions” has own sound and principles that can’t be good intentions: misbehaving and aggressive intonations, sore vocals, mild guitar solos plus chorus doubles this effect. Since opening track “Jawbreaker” theme of crashing all around in the name of rock’n’roll (“All I wanna make rock’ n’ roll until I die”) chased you every minute also as punk tempo, itchy lyrics, metal guitar solos and chorus that you can’t refuse to join. For punk lovers there are “Genie’s got a trouble” and “Weekend suffering”, for sleaze and glam rock lovers – “Crazy borderline” and heart- tearing “Sick adrenaline”, for those who doubt what they love – “Check your head” (I can’t say that’s ballad but anyway).

In a case of nostalgia about sleazy times, especially Swedish rock stage in the first decade of Millenium, the record would recommended for listening twice. There is sign of relief and no sign of boredom.
