The German formation microClocks makes a mix of various genre’s taking the rock, the goth, electro, industrial together in one thing and make their own thing out of it. The band just released an album called “Soon Before Sundown”.
I like the fact that the guys take up English. A lot of bands in this genre are sticking with the German and limit themselves in a way, but these guys have a more international approach. Sure, listening to it you can hear their not native English but it has its charm.
The guys have a good idea of what they want, seeking a certain catchiness in their songs. It is easy to get to know the song well and singing it along when you hear it again. The instrumental parts is well though as well. A certain pop-touch is with this and it is smartly embracing the rest of the influences. A special mention for the guitars which stick out over the rest. Sometimes I wish they would add a little more heaviness into it to give it just a bit extra body, but surely they get away with the way it is also.
microClocks is simplya band that does well. It may be having a commercial sauce over it, but that will certainly suit a large audience. A fine release!
