Thousand Foot Krutch is a Christian Rock band formed in Canada back in 1997. Since their first release in 2001 they had a lot of line-up changes until now that they have a steady one formed by Trevor McNevan on vocals and guitar, Joel Bruyere on bass and Steve Augustine on drums. Welcome To The Masquerade is their fifth album.
It is pretty interesting the way that Thousand Foot Krutch have to bring to the listener their believes and feelings, which on this album are supposed to spread a not-so-new concept dealing with the assumption of how often people wear a mask in order to change or hide their feelings. It is all made clear though the cover and the title, and musically expressed through as many influences as you want, from Rock and Metal to Rap and Rock ‘N’ Roll, pretty well tight together. There’s an evocative atmosphere as well, which is most of the time paired with Trevor McNevan vocals. His voice is much versatile although there’s always a kind of rap and driving rhythm to be found in it which gives an haunting sense to the listening. The calmer and sweeter side of the band isn’t shown at its best though, as ballads turn out to be a bit foregone. Fortunately the whole rest of the album is far from banal and makes up for the random low points that you find on it.
