Releasedate: June 2009
By: Sabine van Gameren
The Finnish band Blastanus delivered their debut album “Odd” in June 2009. They play as combination of Death metal and grind core.
Blastanus seems to be a band that is up for writing a lot of material. Their first album contains 16 songs and in their info sheet they mentioned to be working on new material for a second release already.
“Odd” contains a whole settlement of riffs, quite sharp and present in the music. The band presents themselves in a technical way, which brings something interesting for those who fancy the Math core genre. Tempo changes and The album is not very approachable for those who do not specifically like this and it is likely you turn it off before the about 35 minutes lasting record comes to an end. 35 minutes and 16 songs is equal to a lot of short songs, where the band brings you to the climax in short time. The band announced to make a bit longer songs on their next release, which is not an unwelcome add. Sometimes a song just ended to fast.
Overall the band made a steady release where they can be proud on. It is one to watch and follow because before you know they are big and all over the scene.
