Silence – Life:Failed

Releasedate: 27-11-2009; Label: Biohazzard Records
By: Sabine van Gameren

Silence is a gothic rock band from Germany. The band is formed in 1995 Their first release was in 1999 and recently the released their new album called: “Life:Failed”.

The band is brining a quite catchy sound on this album. Hearing it various times over Christmas made me be able to hum along to most of the songs. As point of reference I could mention the Finnish band Saralee, which could be seen on the same bill as Silence.
A certain sense of pessimism is clearly to hear in the music, but every once and a while a bit of light peeks through the darkness. The melodic side, mainly contributed by keyboards has a steady place in the music, but the band took care that it did not got overdone and leave some space for the guitars and vocals to contribute enough to the drama to make it sound complete. Drums and bass are more in the background of the music, but bring a solid backup, which is mostly to hear within the instrumental moments of the songs. Drums could have been placed with a bit more passion and aggression to make a more credible impression of the perception the music tries to bring.

Overall the band has released a decent album, mostly to enjoy by people who are into the genre as it is not music that random people would like. Silence brought a release that is worth trying.
