The Rasmus – The Best Of 2001 – 2009

The Rasmus is a Finnish rock band that formed in 1994 in Helsinki while the band members were still in upper comprehensive school. The original band members were Lauri Ylönen (lead singer/songwriter), Eero Heinonen (bass), Pauli Rantasalmi (guitar) and Janne Heiskanen (drums). Heiskanen quit the band in 1998 and was soon replaced by Aki Hakala. They have seven studio albums released and now their second best of compilation.

The album contains the best songs between 2001 and 2009. While most of the songs were already released, it features a new unreleased song called “October & April” which features vocals by Anette Olzon from Nightwish. This song was recorded during the same time as the other songs from the band’s latest studio album Black Roses, but wasn’t included as it didn’t follow the album concept.
“Open My Eyes”, appearing in acoustic live version on this album, is a b-side of the single Shot and originally taken from the UK edition of the album Hide from the Sun (2005). I’m sure pretty much everybody knows all the songs besides these two just mentioned ones. Each track on the album was a released single and received airplay in the radio, several of the singles even appeared in the charts. This best of album is a nice Christmas present for all The Rasmus fans in addition to their collection or for people who want to have a collection of released singles of The Rasmus instead of each album.
