John Canoe – Actorboy

[schema type=”review” name=”John Canoe – Actorboy” description=”Label: Four Twenty Records” author=”Sabine van Gameren” pubdate=”2016-01-26″ ]From Italy they are, the Surf/Grage Rock trio named John Canoe. A rather young band, formed end of 2014 and they are currently releasing an EP called “Actorboy”.

The band sends us five tracks to listen to. We start with a intro that has a Punkish touch. A recognizable sound, catchy but not outstanding. Then we get the first real song, “Beer And Pills” is one that sticks around, a track that has a building hysteria inside it, which gets followed by “Nervous Breakdown” which much calmer in its building. The other tracks are all in the same line of what we heard before, which may be the band’s biggest trap. They have the same kind of energy in them, the catchiness. The songs could use a bit more character of their own to make the individual stand out as well. As to mention one of these that would be the main attraction is not a thing, the band keeps it in one line which although its being catchy does not make us remember one of the songs as an individual.

“Actorboy” keeps five tracks of easy listening. An EP that has a party mood, all songs gain more and more during the track and follow a same pattern. For a full length, they should make the variation a bit more obvious, to have the span of attention through the whole track list, for we are at the max right now.
