Spirit Disease was formed in September 2002 by Mika Sallanen (bass & vocals). This Death Metal formation have released their debut full length in 2006. “Retaliation” is their second album which is out now.
The band have taken their time for a new release and this may benefit them, you would say. They bring a strong track list with eleven vicious songs. The guys working on a decent tempo, having the drums quite upfront at first, but not to be mistaken what their melodic side does with their sound. On the vocals you’ll get some diversity. Mainly the deeper vocals are there, but occasionally there are some higher vocals added which are perhaps the weakest link in the album. But, as said in their info, the band experiments a bit with different styles, so that explains. Spirit Disease remained from having a too strong with the past and prefers to have a modern approach found back in the whole production of it.
Overall, “Retaliation” is an album that shows a band that likes to look around for what they can do, but yet is kept as one piece. The songs are still in line with each other and give the indication that we can expect quite a lot more from these Finns.
