Laments of Silence is a Spanish formation making Melodic Death metal. The band had their first release in 2002 and “Restart Your Mind” is their second full length album.
Laments of Silence starts with a whole lot of melodic elements in the music. If you add this to the vocal style of vocalist Edu, you can’t miss out the Swedish influences that are here to hear. The riffage is set up as the strongest point until the moment arrives that the keys and some clean vocals claim that spot. And just when this all comes clear there is the pounding drums that give this music a powerful backbone. The key parts sometimes bring the atmosphere to higher levels, but in other occasions it doesn’t fall into place as it makes the music a bit too much like a fairytale. Whether you like this different approach is to question, but for me the keys were often the breakpoint that either brings the music in positive or negative direction when it comes to this album. The band sets something on the market that does have an own face, yet is not that far from what has been done before and they did not stay away from taking a risk here and there. “Restart Your Mind” does not outvote the band yet, but rather makes curious what they bring in live situations and what next releases might bring. As strongest point on this album is the song “Scream in the Darkness” to name for its catchiness and guaranteed live success. Worth a try, try Laments of Silence.
