After eight years waiting, here is the long awaited and acclaimed return of one of the legendary black metal bands from Norway, Dødheimsgard, also known as DHG, with a new album, the 5th of their long career, entitled “A Umbra Omega”.
As soon as I heard “Aphelion Void” followed by the intro “The Love Divine”, I was immediately surrendered to the sound of the band led by the brilliant composer and producer Vicotnik, and I can’t tell you which track I dislike or even what is my favorite, this magnificent album transports me to a world of different sensations that sound familiar to me personally, from calmness to agitation and even in darkness it is possible to see a faint light at the end of the tunnel, because there is always hope for a bit of happiness provided by music . “A Umbra Omega” is not a vulgar album of black metal, because due to its versatility it is a masterpiece of experimental extreme music, or to be more precise, avant-garde black metal with industrial touches here and there, a fact that has made the sound of the band as a unique one.
The tracks are very well architected and produced, these bass lines are simply wonderful as well as the drum blastbeats , Dødheimsgard do know perfectly how to match this fusion of black metal and avant-garde so that you can notice the fantastic and creative influences about jazz and progressive, the lyrics reflect anxiety, emptiness, despair and loneliness, so well expressed by the voice of charismatic Aldrahn, but don’t take these lyrics too seriously, all you have to do is closing your eyes and feel the power of the music because this album is simply pure art that I truly recommend if you want to listen to something different inside black metal. An intro and five long tracks that do wonders so do not be afraid of being open minded.
