The Ergot is a relatively young band from Italy. They make a combination of doom and death metal and their first demo release is “Anno Domini Mmix”.
The first impression of this young band is not too well. They call their genre choice a mix of doom and death metal, but it sounds a bit like they could not really make a choice for either one of them. The slow elements of doom are not really blended with the death elements on a memorable way, meaning it is not really what you want to hear at all. The band seems to taken Scandinavian influences in their music, being melodic like the Swedish can be, but vocal wise it tend to be more like a Finnish band would do it. If you ask, what is the sound of The Ergot, it is not really easy to answer. The whole demo is messy, not too well produced. Atmospheric, there is much to like but the band should first find out what exactly they want on a musical way, start with fine tuning their skills and start again to make something that is The Ergot and stands like a rock. “Anna Domini Mmix” is like the tower of Pisa. It might come down if no work will be done, but if there is enough construction work done it might be around for years as well.
