The 69 Eyes is a Finnish rock band founded in 1989. The 69 Eyes’ music was described as mix of the gloominess of gothic rock with guitar-powered rock’n’roll. Their music is influenced by other artists such as L.A. Guns, The Doors, Elvis Presley, Guns ‘N’ Roses, Billy Idol, The Lords of the New Church, The Misfits and The Sisters of Mercy. The term “goth ‘n roll” was used to describe their style.
After two years they finally released their new album called “Back In Blood”. I was a little scared to listen to it, unsure what would expect me. But on this album there are only about two songs sounding typically 69eyes like, the way we have known them. The rest is different, back in another time, reminding of several different chapters in your life. The 69 Eyes tried something new and somehow succeeded in my opinion. It doesn’t sound the same or too similar anymore, yet you can still hear their style. Some songs on this album also remind of previous songs of them from back in the day. Jyrki also uses some different styles of singing which sounds good. Extremely outstanding is the song “The Good, The Bad & The Undead”. Songs like that you usually hear in venues sung by the fans before the band comes on to get them on to get them on faster. A sort of “Hey Ho, Let’s Go” tribute. This album is way better to dance along and somehow brings a smile to my face. The last song is very interesting as well and a perfect closing for this album. There is more singing of the band included, but the clapping is still there. I can’t wait to see this album performed live. This album is a better party album,. Not as sad, melancholic and slow as we knew it from the last few albums. No, this is rock’n’roll and you’re allowed to have fun.
