Spencer Day is a Jazz/ SingerSongwriter based in Los Angeles. He has released a couple albums before, but this year he comes with his first independent one since seven years. It is called “Daybreak” and it is out now.
With his 36 years Spencer has chosen a rather remarkable sound for his album. As soon as you start listening you can hear how he takes you back to the 60’s and instantly you get drawn into the atmosphere. A quality, because we were not really there either in the 60’s so to set down a sound that sets people’s mind and imagination to it so easily is not something that all can do. Fair enough, not all songs on this release are his own, half of them are covers he does make them all come into one line, not creating a dividing crack in the album between his own and these covers.
A song that captures us most is “These Are Made For Walkin’”, a song that has been covered by many but are given some charm and verve by Spencer. A smokey and exciting track that makes you want to see and experience it all live.
Altogether “Daybreak” is a pleasant album, not just jazzy, not just singer/songwriter but actually a whole vibrant musical experience.
