Rick Risi is a singer/songwriter. He recorded his first album in the year 2000 and this year the album “No Shadow Detected” comes out.
Rick Risi himself does not really narrow down his genre and listening to the album you quite fast learn that it would be hard to do so as diverse styles are brought with a release. It seems quite interesting for an artist to do this diversity, but the question is what is the own style of Rick look like? We have not really managed to find what he stands for as he listens carefully to the stereotype of a genre and then encounters himself with exactly that for a song. It’s a pity he does not give an own twist to it a bit more.
His vocals are done in the way, you either love or hate. Here and there it tends a bit to a whining tone which does not always make it very pleasant to listen. The strengths of this release are found in the instrumental parts where you could feel more at ease listening to something that is familiar but yet decently done.
“No Shadow Detected” is an album that seems written by an artist who has a wide range of musical taste. However it lacks a bit personality which is a pity, great things could come out of those with diverse tastes.
