28-12-2012 Stream of Passion

Venue: Tivoli de Helling, Utrecht (Netherlands)

The Dutch formation Stream of Passion formed years ago, but in 2007 the band got an extended line-up change which resulted in the band they are now. Last year the band organised a special event ‘Winter Evening with Stream of Passion’ and since it was a big success they decided to return to Tivoli for a second edition this year.

It was a long wait, the doors were open about 1,5 hour before the band entered the stage so their hard core fans had a long wait to ensure their front row spot. Was it all worth the waiting, well it seemed at first that the so called winter evening came with coldness… this in the response of the audience as it took a bit for them to show some energy and affection, but no one can be fooled as at the end of the evening a cosy atmosphere was there in the venue. As if everyone was surrounding a bonfire with a typical warming winter drink in their hands. Stream of Passion have brought a whole bunch of friends with them to accompany them on the stage. Marjan Welman, known from the band Autumn, for example which sings a couple of songs with the band. Her voice seem to match quite well with Marcela’s. Also Jelle Schrooten of the band Face Tomorrow was there to perform. First it was “New Born” a cover of Muse that got played and touched the audience, but when he sang a song of Stream of Passion self it really showcased his voice in a great way. Maybe not the most likely collaboration here, but surely one that worked out very well.

Between the guest appearances the band played some songs that the audience requested. “Out In The Real World”, the band’s first single got played and many seem to like the trip back the memory lane. At the end the most remarkable part of the show came when Damian Wilson(Threshold) came on stage. With an acoustic guitar he played some intimate song for the audience and besides that he seemed a comedian in the way he works the audience. While some stage diving action got set up by him at the end of the show, the fans have truly witnessed a cosy winter evening here. Good there was no snow outside that brought up that winter feeling, just some grey dark sky and its rainy water streaming down from the sky, but here in Tivoli Stream of Passion created a little illusion the surprises the winter could bring. Hopefully they will continue the tradition next year as it is pleasure to see musicians unite and bring something special to the fans.
