Swedish formation Morlocks are bringing the combination of Progressive and Industrial (says the label). Maybe not the most heard combination but the band started in the 90’s already. Last year they released “The Outlaw of Fives” which gets now the chance to go more international via Echozone.
The combination of Progressive and Industrial is something you might need to get used to if you have not heard it before. The first two tracks appear a bit messy which does not make it comfortable at first but perhaps it was not meant to be gentle anyway. But then when the track “Non Trigger Man” is played it is sure: HOOKED! Catchy and aggressive. It is diverse and plays with such different atmospheres in each track that it shows that this band can be up for quite something. And yet the guys remain with that red thread in their sound that makes you realize it is Morlocks. Not often you find a band that can show their face with so much contrast and depth right away. The band surprises with orchestral parts in “The Grand Dividing Theory” which has two parts. Maybe a bit like Weltenbrand has brought their music. Then in the next the aggression returns to set the difference yet again. The album closes with the more calmer “Consecration”.
I kiss the feet of the one who brings that band to a venue “near” Tempelores’ tourplans because listening to this album sets the expectation that their gigs will be a hell of a party!
