Baroness – Yellow & Green

Releasedate: 17-07-2012; Label: Relapse Records
By: Milla Smile

The US band “Baroness” released the third album “Yellow & Green” this summer.

What a style of Baroness supposed to be? First of all, it’s not music. That’s the tendency of giving the album colourful titles. The previous two were “Red album” and “Blue record”, respectively. The third album has a double-color title “Yellow & Green”. Then we should point the cover arts. There are worthy masterpieces. But, sadly, the contents of the last box is less bright. The genre of what the band do describes as sludge metal, progressive metal and elements of punk. So there are two discs with yellow and green opening themes. The first disc includes many interesting tracks like desert song “Take my bones away”, psychedelic “Cocainium”, energetic “Sea Lungs” and dynamic “March to Sea”. In the opposite, the second disc has not many songs what should be mentioned, except two tracks. That’s “Green theme” which absolutely fantastic and surreal. The other track is “The line between” with only drum and bass line in beginning.

Well, the wonderful cover is not the last point for the choice of listening to something new. But I guess that’s all provides only standing on the shelves not to be heard several times. It would be great if all the songs spin on any players once.
