The German pagan/folk metal band Wolfchant is releasing a new album named “Determined Damnation” via Massacre Records.
In 2003 the band was formed and the next year they released two demo’s which got them a record deal in 2005. Their first two full length albums got released by CCP records and their latest release “Determined Damnation” sees light via Massacre records. Their music is quite melody driven, comparable to Moonsorrow and Ensiferum.
So far they never really convinced me with their music but the start of this album is good. The second song “World in Ice” is recognizable and got my attention positively by that. The band have put some effort in bring some more varied music, making each song unique. I liked the use of different influences as well. Take the drums. I found it fascinating how they got their place in the music. Just like their second album, the band have English and German songs on the album. Even though I understand both languages, I found the English ones more attractive to listen to. A guest performance of Michael Seifert from the band Rebellion can be heard, which is definitely a nice one collaboration.
The riffs in this album are original and not too much like the stereotype sound that comes with this genre. Some of the songs like “World in Ice” and “In War” are anthem material for the band. Songs that will be associated with them by many metalfans.
The band perfectionized their overall sound and suddenly I start liking their music. They surely convinced me while their older work didn’t touch me at all. Well done, I am curious to how they would do live and hope to catch them live somewhen.
