02-04-2012 Therapy?

Supports: Paceshifters; Venue: Tivoli Oudegracht, Utrecht (Netherlands)
By: Sabine van Gameren

Therapy? returned to Tivoli, Utrecht (Netherlands) again. As support they had Paceshifters.

Paceshifters are from Dutch origin, but the band has a certain international allure over them. They have a quite raw edged style in playing their tracks, raw rock as they bring it, but don’t be surprise to find out they have their compositions quite organized. The trio has also a quite balanced mix right here. The drummer makes a good impression while the vocals are filling in nicely. In a couple of weeks the band will release their second album called: “Home” and as it seems the band got some people convinced tonight to keep an eye on them. This is how you want all supports to be, surprising and entertaining.

The North-Irish band Therapy? is not a stranger to this venue. The band played here before and once again they have drawn a large crowd. On Monday evening the band seems very energetic when they enter the stage. Starting off with “Ghost Trio” the band sets it straight from the start, this show will make an impact. Very interesting, considering their performance in 2009 in this venue it took them a little longer before the heat was on. When the madness really started was when the band played “Isolation”, a Joy Division cover. A small moshpit started as well.

Bassist Michael McKeegan is often quite upfront and entertaining the audience with his mimics while playing. Vocalist Andy Cairns announces a little sing-along for the crowd. It is their new single called “Living In The Shadows Of A Terrible Thing”. A song that has a sure catchy side but is still a bit fresh for the audience. Nevertheless they got them along. After that the band rocks on, doesn’t hold back in playing some of their hits, including “Diane” in a rockier version than what it is known for. Overall the band played a remarkable show. One that will be remembered and one that makes you hope they will return.
