Matthau Mikojan from Tampere is a Finnish rock musician, singer, guitarist and songwriter in a band named after him. In addition, he also plays bass guitar in the Finnish rock band Black Jesus at the moment. To his own band belong Simo Stenman on drums and Teemu Broman on bass. He has now his second album released which is called “Mania For Life”.
The album is not as colorful as the last one has been. It is plainer, held in white with big black print. The album itself is not as jazzy as the last one, but more serious and rocking. It seems stricter, more focused and straight. The lyrics are very thoughtful as we are used to when hearing stuff from Matthau. All songs get easily stuck in your head. My favorites on the album are “Elegantly Wasted” and “Gypsy Eye”. Many choruses are very catchy and easy to sing along. The songs are great to dance or sway along. “What Would You Do?” is a quite outstanding song especially with the chorus. The white horse somehow draws your attention and keeps it, no matter what you’re doing. “Chasing Ghosts” is a very emotional song, “Times To Be Remembered” is a quite touchy one. “Shine A Light” is a very deep song.
All in all if you listen close to the album you will discover a lot of emotions, deep thoughts and dark corners as well as bright sunshine. So listen to it and discover for yourself. Matthau Mikojan is always a journey into your deep self.
