The Man-Eating Tree – Harvest

Releasedate: 28-11-2011; Label: Century Media
By: Sabine van Gameren

The Man Eating Tree is a band from Finland. In 2010 they came with their debut album “Vine” which scored well and brought them to Europe on the road with Tarot. At The end of 2011 the band returned with a new album called: “Harvest”.

Slow, melancholic tunes enlighten you from the droopy autumn days, maybe an early winter looking around the corner, but a sense of satisfaction of this happening lays in here as well. The Man Eating Tree are kings in creating atmospheres as they proved already at their first and with “Harvest” being out you get introduced to that once again. Melodic guitar pieces, often dreamy and yet very much giving direction to it all are accompanied by the voice of Tuomas Tuominen. His voice is maybe not so standard which ads something different to the sound. Compared to what we heard on the band’s first album you may expect it to be even more intense, having the guitars more filled up and stronger and perhaps the whole mood is a bit more melancholic. There are not really much remarks to make on the album, it shows a diverse record of a band that progresses from what was already quite good to some higher level. Definitely worth to listen to, if you had not done that before.
