Devon Sproule is a Canadian singer/songwriter. She is still young but currently releasing her seventh full length album: “I Love You, Go Easy”.
Her sound is diverse, it has some indie influences, some folk and yet that jazz sound is there as well. Through her words, the sentences that are made you may hear a modest, timid but kind woman that has experienced a lot through her life to find inspiration to write about. Imagine this with a high dose of melancholy and you know what to expect from this lady. Whether the songs come with a piano backing or the smooth guitar parts that come in a song like “Monk/Money” it seems to be made to compliment her voice. Throughout the whole album the different instruments used are not really coming forward, leaving the spotlights open for Devon Sproule herself. It seems a decision made on purpose, but yet it gives you to wonder if there would be some wilder instrumental part how the strength of the vocals would develop. Interesting is that she changes the tempo sometimes and does not only stick in the slower songs, this brings in the excitement a bit as otherwise you have to potential loss of interest looking around the corner.
“I Love You, Go Easy” is a mellow release that brings you warm voices that tell you a story. Perfect for the rainy autumn afternoons.
