“The Great Revival” is already the ninth album from the guys from Stuck Mojo. Stuck Mojo is a band that mixes the rap from hip-hop with rock and metal riffs. The band was formed back in 1989 by guitarist Rich Ward. In 2000 the band drifted apart, to reunite in 2005 for a European tour. They decided to record another album in 2006 with the title “Southern Born Killers”. The band members were energized after the different tours, new success and introduced their new front man Lord Nelson.
For this new album they have worked together with producers Rick Beato and Andy Sneap (Machine Head en Megadeth). With this album they bring another record full of rap mixed with rock and heavy metal elements. There is also a female voice you can hear on the album and it belongs to Christine Cook. Her voice reminds me of Anouk’s and fits perfectly with this style. The combination between of rap and rock might be invented by Stuck Mojo (being the godfather of rapmetal) there are other bands nowadays that sound a bit similar. The band member from the Guano Apes formed a new band: iO (album review)with a soul, hiphop singer and the sound also reminds me of Kwan (Finland).
They do deliver a diverse album, but not all the tracks get my credits. I really dislike the cover of “Country Road”. “There’s A Miracle Comin’” reminds me of the movie The Skeleton Key where a preacher is preaching. “Invincible” sounds like you are back in the 80s. “The Flood” starts with an Indian guitar but turns into a great track with a metal riff-ed end. The track “Superstar Part 1” is really catchy and overall it is a nice album. Personally the rock and metal could have been more present after my liking.
