07-04-2011 Glamour of The Kill

Supports: Rise A Thousand; Venue: Sugarfactory, Amsterdam (Netherlands)
By: Sabine van Gameren

The evening brings some entertainment, Glamour of The Kill plays the Sugarfactory in Amsterdam and there is a support band as well.

Rise A Thousand is the support. The band has gotten themselves a bit of name and the only advice that you would need to see their show, is not to stand front row. The band is really active on the stage and if you don’t want to feel like watching a tennis match it pays off the step back until you have a better overview of the stage. What does not help for them either is the sound. Quite loud for such a small place and not really balanced either. The pro’s of seeing this band is that they know quite well how to get people enthusiastic. They all seem to be in a great mood and perhaps they won some souls tonight.

Most of the audience seem to be here for the British band Glamour of The Kill. The guys recently released their debut album “The Summoning” (review) and although it is their debut, every one seem to know the songs by heart. The female audience songs along while the males try to get that mosh pit going. Musically, the band surely has a commercial side, the whole image of the band is quite set and they seemed to be sponsored by several “drinks”, which only underlines this statement. Luckily for those who get suspicious as soon as they sense this commercial scent the band actually knows how to play their songs in such a way that the more technical listeners are pleased with them as well.

The vocalist of the band clearly directs his fans on how to react. He wants them to sing along, so he makes them do it. Of course any charm comes with it when he keeps complimenting the “gorgeous females” in the venue, which clearly helps to get them along. At the end the band makes them do a wall of death which had a happy ending. The guys know how to make a show, a little bit cheesy sometimes in the way they speak to their audience, but the youngsters does not seem to mind. Seeing that, you can only conclude that the band will return to play some more gigs in Europe.
