On Sunday the 13th of September Waterfront, Rotterdam was hosting a Swedish party. Crucified Barbara and Backyard Babies shared stage tonight.

While waiting till the evening would start it was clear that Crucified Barbara would play first. A glittery pink drum set was right in front of us. The band consists of four rocking women, who started the band in 1998. They have a new album coming out on 19 November which is titled: ”’Til Death Do Us Party”. You should not expect a group like Pussycat Dolls with a guitar from this band, expect influences from 80’s metal like AC/DC to guide you through their set. I was most impressed by the girls on guitar and bass. They were active on stage and gave more power than I would have expected. Less I was impressed with the drums which were not very surprising, pretty basic actually. Overall they were not that bad to have a support act. The audience seems to enjoy it as well and not only the males.

The Backyard Babies were headlining tonight. First of all I was totally flabbergasted when I saw the huge amount of articles in the merchandise stand. If you want, you can dedicate your life totally to the Backyard Babies. The band recently released their 6th studio album “Backyard Babies” (review). For those who don’t know the band yet; they make some sleazy punk rock music. It was clearly that the band has enough fans in the Netherlands, the venue was pretty filled. The show started and it was hot. And I mean in temperature. So no wonder that it only takes a few seconds till all of the guys were totally sweated. They are an active stage band and move around a lot, which suits the music perfectly. The band had decorated the amps with some lights and this added some extra atmosphere to the evening. Besides promoting their new album, they also played their older hits like “Minus Celsius” and many people knew the words and were singing along. After they promised a couple of times that they would return to Rotterdam they left the stage, to return for an encore after a while.
