Evergrey is a Swedish Progressive Metal band. They were founded in 1995 and the band made quite some albums during the years. This year their eighth full length studio release “Glorious Collision” got out.
The band have been going through some line-up changes before this album was made. The old line up did not work very well anymore and so come three of the band members got replaced. For a renewed band, that takes a step back in history, the album comes out quite strong. It is full of melodic vocals, strong riffs with some interesting solo’s and overall catchiness. Fourteen songs, quite recognizable, keep your interest quite well. Strong points lay in songs like “The Phantom Letters” or the calm “Free”. Yet, the whole album forms a strong unit. Indeed the band made a different record than their 2008 release “Torn” but what radiates in this material is clearly the enthusiasm of the band, they found back their motivation as it seems. Whether the band shall make another record in this direction is to question. They seem to be a bit experimenting here and there indicating they might try something else again as well. Fans of this band will enjoy it as it goes back to older material of the band and with the qualities of the new musicians within the band they will find a larger crowd as well. A gorgeous release of the Swedes that you may have to listen a bit more often to embrace it, but when it gets you, you are hooked.
