Yaotl Mictlan is a Black Metal formation from Mexico. They have been around since 1999 and their debut was released in 2006. Anno 2011 the band comes with their second full length “Dentro Del Manto Gris De Chaac”.
Expect some Mexican lyrics, pagan influences and a good dose of aggression. The band surprises with their riffs. Though drums are quite dominant in the mix, the guitars break through, some small solo’s, showing that there are some decent skills to be found with these Mexicans. Sometimes the sound is bullying you a bit longer than you hoped for with the guitars playing that tune for longer time than needed, but what makes it up is pretty much always the tempo change that comes straight after that, giving you a break or a push in your back. On tempo you don’t have to complain either, the guys have no problems finding some speed to be placed in their sound. One of the band’s finest songs “Noche Triunfadora” comes with extra surprising elements. The album gets an original touch which taste quite good within the Black Metal scene that is full of clones anyway. It is not something completely strange, but very refreshing anyway. A wonderful album if you like to hear something that is a little different.
