The American formation Jolly makes Progressive Rock music. “The Audio Guide to Happiness Part 1,” is their latest release and it is out now.
The concept of Jolly seem to be a bit in the same line as Devin Townsend with his Ziltoid creation. It’s a bit spacey. Ayreon might be another point of reference. Though the music appears quite calm and never gets really bombastic, it seems like the guys kept it quite modest when it comes to that. They don’t break out with gigantic riffs, but still have some nice guitar parts in their sound that make the sound atmospheric. Their sound is quite open. Somehow commercial and catchy, but it does not bother those who enjoy a little more deepness. The band has a good timing and keeps it interesting throughout the whole track list. It is simply music you can listen at each occasion, it has a positive mood all over it and this totally sets you in the mood for some summer festivals.
Whether you like it or not, the last track tells you to insert disc two, which as the title does hint you to already, will be another album that releases later. A bit of a bummer, cause it feels like you get hold in line for a bit, as the story hasn’t been finished yet, but perhaps a little patience will do.
