20-02-2011 The Casualties

Supports: Bullenschweiss; Venue: Au, Frankfurt (Germany)
By: Nina Mende

And we keep running! Another day, another show.

Tonight we went back to the roots and saw a punk rock show of a legend: The Casualties! In a small venue somewhere in the depth of the neighborhood local punks gathered to drink and have a good time while seeing The Casualties. The venue was packed and the people were at least tipsy, to say the least.

For the warming up – as if the audience needed it – a local garage punk band played a couple songs. The band name was Bullenschweiss. Several people seemed to know the band and even knew the lyrics to the songs. They sang in German only.

But now it was time for the actual punk rock band of the night to play: The Casualties. The Casualties are an American punk band from New York City, New York, formed in 1987. Their musical style is usually classified as street punk or hardcore punk. They rocked the masses. The pogo and moshing was extreme. People fell, got picked up and kept going. The band rocked on the tiny stage, sped through the songs and kept the mosh going. No talking, just playing! But this was not the crowd that would listen to a whole lot of talking. The fans went insane, shouted along to the lyrics, spilled their beer and drank even more! It was amazing to watch the audience go that crazy. The Casualties played songs off all their records including a few covers from the Ramones. It was a very energetic and interesting show. Punk rock at its best: Pure and dirty! Simply amazing!
