The name of Ralf Scheepers might sound familiar. He was the singer of bands like Gamma Ray and Primal Fear. Anno 2011 he found it about time to release a solo album which he names after himself.
Although this is announced as a solo act, Ralf clearly got his socializing skills working and took names as Mat Sinner and Magnus Karlson with him on this album. Some names that guarantee you with some skilled musicianship. He presents a typical hardrock album with his own style attached. What falls a bit down is that some songs sound a bit bitter, “Cyberfreak” sounds like someone whining because he does not know how to work with the fast changing world on the internet while it probably was meant to diss those people who have no real life next to their online existence. Also some other songs are a bit disappointing, for example the song “Before The Dawn” which seemed a bit too simplistic. What keeps this record up for the playing are the catchiness, the great guitar riffs that pop up here and there and the fact that Ralf Scheepers may surprise you more with it than you would have expected.
It’s not the top of the bill but still a pleasant album to listen to.
